Larger mini-notebooks

By: Via

The need for more compact computers keeps on increasing and to meet the demand, a new computing concept was born, one that’s got enough names to make anyone confused: netbook, cloudbook, webbook, UMPC etc. Sometime ago I decided it would be better to call them mini-notebooks (when they have a clamshell design), since they are but a smaller version of normal notebooks. Mini-notebooks typically feature a screen size between 7 and 9 inches. They are very handy and easy to carry around. But some users can’t get comfortable with the screen size and reduced keyboard and hence, some of the leading notebook manufacturers have initiated another new concept. Unfortunately I haven’t come up with a snazzy new name and neither has anyone else. Sometimes they’re still called mini-notebooks and sometimes just plain old notebook. Whatever you want to call them, they have screens between 8.9 and 13 inches.
