Two of the most incredible Malaysian ventures are the Tama Negara National Park and the heroic climb up the grandiose Mount Kinabalu, achieved over two days of strenuous hiking to the reward of spectacular views of much of the Malaysian countryside. To start with the park: 250 kilometres north of the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, this National complex features countless nature trails, rambling walkers' routes through some of the world's oldest rainforest and a plethora of pleasant campsites in which longer term residence may reside. A longer stay is advisable if you wish to see a little more of the wildlife as to see the Malaysian elephants will require a three or four day trek to their natural environs. The trek itself is a memorable experience as you will spend your night time stopovers in the tree houses en route. Not suitable with those who suffer from vertigo is the canopy walkway ? a bridge constructed from aluminium ladders and bound by rope swinging a terrifying 40 metres above ground, 450 metres in length ? the longest walkway of its type in the world. If you can handle the precarious heights it's an excellent way to view the rainforest, getting a closer glimpse of the resident monkeys and exotic insect life. Starting at 7am, the long hike up Mount Kinabalu will take motivation and dedication. Equipment for the trip should include a torch, sun protection lotion, good shoes and warm clothes for the higher climbs. Despite the physical exertion, the staggering views start from only two to three hours into climb providing ample motivation to continue. The climbs are timed such that you will reach the summit by dawn the next day, in time to witness what will probably be the most spectacular sunrise of your life. What possible way could there be to appreciate the magnificent Malaysian landscapes?
